Hair Lounge Grand Opening

Hair Lounge Grand Opening

Angie and Jennifer (the owners of The Hair Lounge; see below post) opened their salon just a few weeks ago. So, naturally, they wanted to throw a grand opening event to celebrate and show the good people of Chattanooga how marvelous their salon looks! They came to us wanting some fun event photos to remember their big night by. So we brought all of our gear down and set up a ‘photo booth’ for the party guests.

They decided to hold the party during MAINx24, a yearly 24 hour celebration that features tons of local businesses down on Chattanooga’s ever-growing Southside, centered on Main Street. This was a smart move on their part, as the party was quite popular among the MAINx24 participants. They offered a red carpet entrance, champagne, sweets and the entertainment of a barbershop quartet. The champagne, of course, helped with some guests’ camera shyness, and we ended up getting loads of hilarious photos.

The Hair Lounge: Shoot One

The Hair Lounge: Shoot One

I’ve been going to Angie Pilkington for my hair needs for a few years now. She always goes above and beyond and genuinely cares for her clients as friends. After having studied and worked all over the US, Angie has decided to open her very own salon in Chattanooga! The Hair Lounge opened up a couple of weeks ago on the corner of Main St and Market St, Downtown Chatt. Angie needed some snazzy new photos to display her artistic abilities in the world of hair styling, so Scott and I wanted to help. She wanted a redhead, brunette, and blonde for the promotional photos. After consultations, she conveyed the desire for images reflective of a vintage 1920s/30s feel, similar in style to that of Boardwalk Empire, the drama on HBO. (awesome show, btw, you should watch it) This meant dramatic lighting, vintage jewelry, makeup, and hair, of course. Angie asked that I be the redhead model, since I do some modeling and she’s made me a beautiful shade of red for so long. So, we went ahead and started the series of shoots with me in front of the camera, and Scott shooting. Angie did a fantastic job with both the updo and the long, curly looks.

As for the editing of the images (especially with the next one) I spent quite a bit of time working on the hair, making sure all my little fly hairs were put in their place.

Chelsea’s Fashion Shoot

Chelsea’s Fashion Shoot

We met Chelsea a few months back through some friends and really loved her look. She’s a hair stylist who creates some awesome ‘dos so book her for some eye-catching locks! I mean, look at her hair as an example. She’s a platinum blonde with beautiful red accents. She came to the shoot with a whole wardrobe of fashionable outfits and unique jewelry. Really great at taking direction, she proved to be a fun and talented model. And she really hadn’t modeled before, can you believe it! Anyway, here are some faves of ours. Still working on more!

Beauty Retouch

So we decided to practice some techniques used and taught by Natalia Taffarel in her High-End Retouching DVD. Since we were going to show the before and after in great detail, we decided to photograph me (Kate), because I really don’t care if y’all see my pores. No one is perfect ;) So, here are photos of the Final Product, before, and then some close-ups of the eyes and chin. Just want ya to see every little hair. Total time= apx 9 hours in photoshop cs 5. Four different RAW files were masked in for various sections of the face for color and detail.

Lincoln round two

Lincoln round two

We had the pleasure of photographing little Lincoln again for his 2-year-old portraits. For most of the photos, we just used the sun and a reflector since L was feeling quite rambunctious and running around, playing. He looks like he should be a child model, for sure ;)

Darrin Batts of DB Personal Training

Darrin Batts of DB Personal Training

Darrin is one of those guys who are so full of energy and life that you just feel uplifted being around him. When the camera flips on, he lights up even more, getting into a visual rhythm that is only explained by viewing the photos that are captured. He runs his own personal training business, DB Personal Training, and he has been at it for 20 years. Trust me, this guy can kick your butt in the gym.

We took some promotional photos for him back in 2008 and were thrilled to add his talent to our portfolio:
Muscle Man

Two year later, we’re shooting him again, only this shoot was more for headshots and studio portraits for his acting and modeling career.

Victoria Setup

Here is a look at the lighting setup for the picture of victoria (see full image below). Using our beauty dish camera left, and accenting the hair and the leaves in her hair with a gridded flash from behind. The beauty dish gives an excellent ring in her eyes. Lincoln, Brett, and Andrea

Lincoln, Brett, and Andrea

This cute family was up in Ludington, MI for a family vacation and asked us to photograph them. Andrea had mentioned a blue-jeans family idea, and we took it a step further by placing them in front of a barn located outside of their cabin.

Blue Jeans

We loved how he just looked so innocent in this one. Lincoln is a near 50/50 split look-a-like of his parents. It’s easy taking portraits of somebody so cute! :)

Valerie

Valerie

Valerie, an actress, came to us for headshots. She naturally has the the vintage, 1940s look, so after we got some standard headshots for her portfolio, we glammed her up with hair and makeup so we could capture that Hollywood beauty! Who knows–one day she may be there!

She has such a cute smile, too!

Adding the veil really created a character in her. We had a blast playing dress up to go above and beyond what our client wanted.
